Solo is a visual artist and peace activist from the Nairobi slum of Kibera. Following Kenya’s disputed 2007–2008 presidential election, tensions escalated across the country, leading to widespread violence. More than 1,000 people were killed, and nearly 600,000 were displaced. As unrest spread, marked by looting, burning, and killing, many took to the streets in violence. In the midst of this chaos, Solo picked up brush and paint to create peace messages. His humble demonstration of courage saved lives and property while calming the nation.
