Solo 7 is a visual artist and peace activist from the Nairobi slum of Kibera. During the 2007/2008 presidential election, voter fraud and politicians manipulating ethnic tensions produced violence and bloodshed. Over 1,000 would die, and nearly 600,000 would be displaced. Many residents of Kenya turned to protest. Amid the chaos of looting, burning, and killing, Solo 7 picked up paint and brush and joined the protestors, painting peace messages. His humble demonstration and courage saved lives and property while calming the nation. In the aftermath of the post-election violence, Solo 7 and other artists in Kibera decided to beautify the ruins. Their intention was to begin the healing. The people of Kibera were divided. Children soon joined them, and the artists encouraged their creativity. As Solo said, "They became ambassadors of peace in their own homes." These activities led to the creation of the Solo 7 School of Ideas."
