DANIEL BREVICK

I’m an artist, photographer, peacemaker. I apply the arts to affect positive change in myself and hope to motivate others. Art can tell stories and a well-told story brings awareness. Sometimes change.

AWARDS/SHOWS (Partial)
COMING SOON: HOPE
GALLERY 120 – Inver Hills Art Gallery, Inver Grove Heights, MN. Due to COVID-19 The show has been postponed but I'm looking forward to this one-man show.
ABOUT THE ART:
Hope is a wonderful, confusing, mystery. It sustains life for those living in extreme poverty. It’s married with religion, witchcraft, superstition, and a blindness to reality that rivals that of love. Whether it’s faith in God, the Illuminati, education or self-determination hope is alive and well, even though often misplaced.

When I first visited Kenya and my first slum Casino (2009), seeing the poverty and hunger, children with rags for clothes, no shoes, and shanties for living spaces was difficult. But I quickly learned these can be addressed. I can do something about it.
Now, having spent the last 11 years going and being there, the hardest thing to see is hope. Because you can’t dash it. No matter how absurd. It’s often all they have.

I’m proud to have been selected as one of eleven artist to create a piece for the Persistence show opening on September 18th 2020 at the Landmark Center – RCHS Gallery, in St. Paul, Minnesota.
The Ramsey County Historical Society (RCHS) exhibition: Persistence: Continuing the Struggle for Suffrage and Equality, 1830-2020, recognizes the champions at all levels of work who struggled to achieve voting rights for women in Minnesota, and whose example still serves activists in our community today.  We commemorate these women and their work in Ramsey County and their contributions to American history and the rights of women in this exhibition.

ABOUT THE ART:
Interrupted Dreams – Story: I was sitting with a young girl in Nakuru, maybe 9-10 years old. She was articulate and serious. She started by asking me about President Obama, looking for a deeper understanding of his election. I shared my thoughts and opinions, and it seemed an adult conversation.
Then she said, "I'm so afraid," I asked, "Of what?" She said: "Of growing older, my sisters were made to marry older men and made them pregnant and then abandoned. I want to be a pilot."
