I photograph letterpress blocks as an observer of humanity’s journey. Our culture, technology, prejudice, fashion, and more have been captured in wood and metal. Letterpress expressed all aspects of society and reflects on us at our best and worst. Viewed as a timeline, it shows how we have evolved or digressed. Often there is a sense of mourning and loss within the blocks. Even this centuries-old printing technology has stepped down, giving way to higher quality, faster, and cheaper means, leaving us millions of artifacts and the stories they tell. These blocks often show unidentified individuals, each person did something to have their story told. Given the age of the blocks, all have most likely, passed away. What did they do? More importantly, what will we do with our time? Will your story be known 100 years from now?
